Hindsight & Letting Go of Outcomes

It is easy to see in hindsight how the events in life led us to where we are today. That’s the logical way to look at life’s progression. Yes, hindsight is 20-20, if you’re willing to look objectively.

Ride the Energies into the Summer Solstice

The Path Opening to Increasing Light

The Path of Increasing Light

The first day of June—the summer solstice month—brought a renewed sense of inspiration to me. I awoke at 3 a.m. with my mind moving in many directions for at least an hour. After my morning walk, the energy had organized itself into inspiration and ideas. I was able to sit down and let the creativity flow into several pages of thoughtful concepts that could be fleshed out at a later time. The flow that I experienced was completely organic, and one of the concepts that came to me explained why this occurred.

Is Seeing Really Believing?

Is seeing really believing?

Yes and no.

The answer is not as straightforward as you might think. Remember those True or False questions from childhood exams? This isn’t one of those. The answer to this question involves numerous factors, having nothing to do with eyesight, which determine the seeming reality of the observer. Beliefs, acceptance, perception, perspective and past experience are all filters that shape our vision.

Choosing Peace Over Fear – Empowerment From Within

Connect With That Peaceful Place

In these times of uncertainty, it is important to cultivate a practice of going inward to build a stronger foundation that cannot be eroded by external factors. This is the bedrock of connection with our true selves—our unwavering eternal natures. Where focusing on outward events can bring fear and anxiety, focusing inward brings peace and calm.

How to Elicit Better Responses – Speaking Your Truth or Ego Bluster?

The Tempting Glow of Reaction

The Tempting Glow of Reaction

How many times have you heard a little voice in your head that says, “Stop” or “Don’t” or “Not now”? It can happen after someone says something to you while you are thinking of your response, or it can happen in the tiny instant before you react or respond. Oops—too late! The latter is nearly impossible to stop as the momentum of your reaction is already there, and the voice just manages to sneak in there as you are beginning your response. Of course, that is still a big step further than not hearing the voice at all.

How to Use Awareness to Keep Your Power – The Balance of Intellect and Emotion

Awareness and Power

Intellect devoid of emotion is somewhat hollow, lacking in a deeper sense of fulfillment. Emotion without any logical thought or direction can be confusing, misleading or distracting to the point of leading you down a dark rabbit hole with no light to see the way out.

Choosing Power Over Fear

Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees

When the Path Ahead Is Unclear

Fear is amorphous, nebulous. It fills the space like a steam room or foggy night. Although it has no real substance, and you could walk right through it, it blocks vision, creating a false barrier to our paths. When we can’t see clearly, even if we know the way, we tend to stop in our tracks. We become uncertain and question our validity and actions. We question our right to move forward, our abilities and our own minds. The fog of fear holds no real power, yet it can hold us in place, make us to retreat or even cause us to cower and hand over our power to this seemingly real entity.

Acceptance as a Means for Being Present

Being truly present means accepting each moment—where you are and how you feel, whatever the circumstance.

Does the Soul Have Needs?

Two Buddha Heads

Which mind are you listening to right now?

Although it may seem that needs are only of the body and mind, the soul does have desires—longings that often translate into needs of the body-mind. However, the perceived needs of the body-mind are filtered through our thoughts and beliefs. They have been developed over our lives and become tainted by misrepresentations of what we think to be our needs and desires. The pure longings of the soul can become harder to access over time, with the build-up and subsequent overlay of externally created ideas, “shoulds,” “can’ts” and “what ifs.”

So, how do we access our true soul desires? First, we must learn how to distinguish perceived needs and desires from true longings. Most actions we take in the course of waking hours stem from real or perceived mental, physical, or emotional needs. Of course, some of these are related to fulfilling actual physical needs, such as eating and sleeping. The rest are creations of the mind that reflect personal and societal thoughts and beliefs. For example, I need a mate to complete me, I need this job to fulfill me, I need the right shoes, I need to show who is boss, I need ice cream now, and on and on.

Is It Okay to Be Okay With Not Knowing?

Gratitude for the Beauty of the Journey

As many of us do, for many years I grappled with living with not knowing—what will I do for my next career, what is my destiny, what is my calling, how can I do something I love and make a lot of money at the same time, what do I want to do, what do I love to do, what brings me joy, what is fulfilling to me?

It’s funny, because I actually love knowledge! I love to learn, to be enlightened, to understand, to be amazed, to investigate, to gather information, to be let in on secrets of life and more. Yet, knowing and knowledge are not one and the same. Knowing, to me, is a mind game, a human “need.” People think they need to know all sorts of things in order to be okay, safe, comfortable and happy. They want to know what will happen next, how they can control outcomes, what their roles in life should be, what they are meant to be doing, and much more.
